Safe Sharing of Youtube Videos

Hey Everybody...this quick tip demonstrates how teachers can avoid the chance of displaying inappropriate material when showing Youtube videos. I want to say thanks to Suzanne Brooks for sharing this great tool.

The information below is from Suzanne's help file...

Using Safeshare to show Youtube videos
http://www.safeshare.tv/

Youtube videos are a great teaching resource! The suggested videos or comments that surround them on the page can be problematic when projected to everyone. A video page that was fine when you checked it at home can suddenly have inappropriate comments or videos around it when it is projected for students. Using safeshare will open the video link in an internet window by itself. It also provides a full screen button.

1. Locate and preview the youtube video you want to use.
2. Create a 2nd tab or open a second Internet Explorer window.
3. Go to safeshare.tv on the internet
4. Copy the Youtube video’s URL (website address).
5. Paste it into safeshare box.
6. Click on generate safe link.
7. Highlight the new safe share link.
8. Copy and Paste new safeshare link into SMART Notebook to link for your lesson (and save it for later/share with other teachers) OR paste into Internet Explorer to show immediately.

If you would like to quickly crop it online to show only part of the video:
1. Follow steps 1-6 above.
2. Click on the link “Do you want to only share a part of the video? click to crop.”
3. Click on Play arrow and then Set Start link (while playing the video) to set where the video starts – (00 would be the beginning) time appears next to it once it is set.
4. If you mess up, you can click on the small x next to the time to remove it. You can click and drag the play bar forward or back to get to different parts of the video as needed.
5. Continue to play the video, click on Set Stop link to set when to stop.
6. Click on OK.
7. Copy and Paste new safeshare link into SMART Notebook to link for your lesson (and save it for later/share with other teachers) OR paste into Internet Explorer to show immediately.
